I'm a new student!

by Pat
(San Francisco, California, USA)

Hi. I'm a beginning student myself and I can't count the number of reasons why I play. There are a lot (too many reasons), but one thing I noticed is that the more I play, the more reasons I find! Surely there's somebody out there that feels the same way as I do. I mean, once I started playing, I haven't stopped finding reasons to keep going since. I **really** like the way my fingers feel when they're pressing keys for example. That's probably weird, but it's true. Playing the piano just feels **right** to me if you know what I mean.

Of course I like it even more when I can manage to get an actual song out of the thing! LOL But you know what? I even enjoy the struggle in learning. I guess it has something to do what that saying... "It's not the destination, it's the path." It can take me **days** to figure out a simple song, but man! The thought process that I go through... it's like I'm a mad scientist on the verge of making an awesome discovery. So yeah, I get a major thrill out of the whole process from beginning to end.

It makes me wonder if that's what the masters went through. I don't think Beethoven had to struggle that much (LOL), but maybe he liked **working** at getting the notes right like I do. I'm only studying basic chords and really easy melodies right now, but I know one day, I'll be able to play right along with the best of them.

Thanks for giving me an opportunity to even write about this tho. I've **never** shared these feelings with anyone before. Sometimes I have to wonder if I enjoy learning how to play the piano more than I enjoy playing it! Is there any separation of the two??
